We are going to tell you everything you need and 10 simple practices to make the perfect pourover.

WHAT YOU NEED

The things you will need are really simple:

Coffee Beans

A Good Coffee Bean Grinder

Coffee Filter (any kind of filter will work for this)

A Scale or a Measuring Cup

Water

Kettle (a gooseneck kettle is preferred)

Pour Cone

Coffee Cup

THE TEN STEPS TO A PERFECT POUR OVER

Grab your gooseneck kettle and grab your water. For the perfect cup, you are going to need twice as much water as you want. How much water you ask? That’s simple, take your coffee cup you plan on drinking from and use that to fill your kettle twice.

How much coffee do you need for the perfect cup of coffee? The rule of thumb is 7 grams of coffee grounds will produce 4 oz of coffee.

If your water is finished boiling, the next step is simple. Take half of the water from the kettle and prime your pourover cone (or dripper). This will prime the dripper and prepare it for when you begin the pourover process.

The next step is to take the coffee grounds you set aside and place them into the filter.

Let the bed of grounds rest for about 30-40 seconds.

Begin the pourover process, gently pouring the water into the filter. Start at the bed's center and work your way around to the outside of the coffee bed, using just enough water to get all of the grounds wet (be careful not to over saturate). This entire process should take about 2 -2.5 minutes.

Experimentation and practice make perfect. You can experiment with the coffee ground to water ratio. This will affect the strength of your pourover. However, it is important to note, if you choose to deviate from the suggested amounts, choose one or the other to adjust, never both.

What is the perfect temperature for your coffee? After letting your coffee cool, the perfect temperature for consumption is anything less than 139F. Any hotter than the suggested temperature could actually carry health concerns.

One of the final steps is actually one of the most crucial: when preparing your water for your pourovers, it is suggested to never use distilled or reverse osmosis water. The rationale is that the minerals in the water are actually not the best for pouring over coffee.

So there you have it, the best and most efficient way to have cafe quality pourover coffee from the comfort of your own home.

Love Your Coffee. Love Your Life.
